Poverty Statistics

The reason we have chosen to minister in Tegucigalpa, Honduras is because of the poverty that pervades the city:

  • 65% of the population of Honduras lives below the poverty line

  • Most of the children come from single-parent homes where the mother or guardian makes about $60 a month

  • If it’s a two-parent home, they may live on roughly $100 a month

  • 40-60% of their income goes directly to pay rent

  • More than 73% of children are moderately to severely malnourished when they begin our day program

  • 20% of the population over the age of 15 is illiterate
